Noshwalks
Our tours were about more than food: We also pointed out historical & cultural landmarks. In 1987, Prentice-Hall published The Food Lover’s Guide to the Real New York, written by me & Hungry Pedalers co-leader Mark Clifford. Hungry Pedalers folded when I went overseas (South Africa) for four years. When I returned, I wanted to resume my passion for exploring New York Cit ... More y’s neighborhoods. With new family responsibilities, I had no time for bike tours, but I did have time to walk around and write. Ergo, Noshnews. Publicity followed: It has been mentioned in The New York Times, The New Yorker and Newsday (a great half-page piece by Erica Marcus) and on WQXR. NY1’s Paul Messina did a great story on Noshnews, following me through Sunnyside.

By organizing in communities that have historically been disinvested, Los Angeles Walk serves as a platform to ensure community input is included in the city’s planning process and that communities can win seats at the decision-making table. That way, communities shape policy and public narratives that ensure equitable access to the safe streets that every Angeleno deser ... More ves. Our strategies for effecting change include: BUILD POWER through organizing and mobilizing a broad constituency for safe, accessible walking conditions across Los Angeles, particularly in historically disinvested neighborhoods. SHIFT CULTURE amplifies the voices of communities most impacted by traffic collisions and dangerous street design and collaborates with community members to reclaim public space for people. CREATE CHANGE by exercising collective power to advocate for immediate safe street changes and securing citizen committee appointments and elected positions to shape policies and public narratives directly. DEVELOP Los Angeles Walks into a representative, strong, stable organization that brings diverse stakeholders into our leadership team, staff and board. Our Mission To activate and mobilize historically disinvested communities in Los Angeles to transform their streets into safe, accessible and vibrant environments for people who walk.
